Sri Lanka Universities’ Technical Officers’ Union is the voice of more than 1200 strong, Technical Grade Officers in the state university sector. More than 30 middle-level and executive grades in all seventeen state universities are entitled to obtain our membership. Established in 1956, it is one of the oldest trade unions in the university system. The minutes of the meetings held in 1956 are still available for reference.
Going beyond the roles of a trade union, we believe that empowering our membership with knowledge and wisdom is the key to their success and which will ultimately increase the productivity of their workplaces. In order to fulfill them we organize workshops, talks, and leadership development programs annually. Also by doing so, we expect our membership to excel in their fields of work by doing research and new innovations. Providing assistance and services to our membership, collectively bargaining for better pay and conditions for all workers, and working to improve the quality of public services will still remain our main priorities.
Vision
To protect and advance the aspirations of our members while being mindful about their rights and privileges, also with a view of working in solidarity to represent a diverse membership
